What’s the Role? As the Coordinator of Programs - DHH you will be providing supportive leadership as it relates to the coordination, development, and implementation of programs and services for learners, families, and school teams across the Atlantic provinces. 

As part of the leadership team, the Coordinator promotes collaborative alignment across APSEA programs and services through a network of interconnected resources supporting learners who receive APSEA services and their families.  
 
Day-to-day, the Coordinator:

  • Works with APSEA teams and educational and community partners to oversee the provision of programs and services that includes virtual learning, in-person learning and gathering opportunities, along with other programs and services that support learners.   
  • Facilitates the implementation of the program planning process as outlined in the APSEA Guide to Responsive Teaching and Learning and the APSEA Guide to Responsive Teaching and Learning – Early Years.  
  • Actively engages with APSEA Program Planning teams as required in the implementation and monitoring of effective instructional and comprehensive assessment practices.   
  • Provides supervision to employees within the department. 
  • Represents APSEA on provincial and/or interprovincial teams and committees. 
  • Liaises with educational and community partners on a wide range of initiatives, including in-person gatherings and APSEA Connect virtual services. 
  • Engages in professional learning and keeps abreast of current literature to remain knowledgeable concerning emerging trends, innovations, programs, and materials in the field. 
  • Supports and fosters a Deaf-friendly, culturally and linguistically responsive environment within APSEA. 
  • Supports processes to create a safe, equitable, positive, and supportive learning environment in which diversities are valued.  
  • Contributes to the maximum budget operating efficiency of APSEA programs through the effective management of financial resources.
 
What You Bring to the Table: You’re not just looking for any job – you’re passionate about education, and you bring a wealth of knowledge and experience.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has a Masters Degree in Education of students who are Deaf, deaf and/or hard of hearing, or equivalent. 
  • Has a Masters Degree in Educational Administration/Leadership or equivalent education and experience.  
  • Has five (5) years of experience in programming and service delivery for students who are DHH.
  • Has a minimum of (5) years of experience in administration and/or leadership/supervisory capacity, within education.
  • Has a valid Nova Scotia Teacher’s Certificate.  
  • Brings experience in the recruitment, supervision, and evaluation of employees.  
  • Brings experience in programming and service delivery for learners in the public school system.  
  • Demonstrates ability in the management of fiscal resources within a budget. 
  • Has excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Deals openly, honestly and transparently in pursuit of departmental and organizational goals. 
  • Is highly organized and detail oriented, with strong decision-making capacity in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Is driven to work collaboratively with APSEA colleagues, educational team members, and other agencies and educational partners. Productively leads multiple priorities.
  • Is a forward focused individual who proactively seeks new knowledge and skills, who looks for opportunities to improve the organization and experience of team members.  
  • Has the ability to mentor and coach employees in the development, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of appropriate programming for learners with diverse needs. 
  • Works independently with limited supervision, is self-directed, and demonstrates initiative. 
  • Has the ability to apply knowledge, experience, and commitment in the areas of cross-cultural understanding, human rights, and diversity. 
  • Brings excellent attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
  • Demonstrates ethical decision making, with a commitment to privacy.
  • Keeps a flexible work schedule to accommodate program implementation outside of typical school hours. 
  • Is ok with occasional travel, which may be required within the Atlantic Provinces. Access to a reliable mode of transportation is required.    

Would be a plus if you have:

  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL).
  • French Language fluency.
