Under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Worker is responsible for assisting in the maintenance of buildings and grounds at 5940 and 5944 South Street, Halifax. The maintenance worker works independently, and as part of the maintenance team to complete routine care for the various components of the building and grounds upkeep.

What’s the Role? As a Maintenance Worker, your day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Assist with maintenance of grounds (snow removal, salting, grass cutting, gardening).
- With supervision, repair small appliances and builds specialty items for students, at teacher request and with prior approval.
- With supervision, perform minor plumbing repairs (sinks and toilets).
- With supervision, perform electrical repairs (ballasts, plugs, light switches, motors).
- Monitor heating/cooling systems under direction from senior staff.
- With direction, perform painting, plaster, carpentry work.
- Assist with maintenance of equipment on ground (playground, garden).
- Assist in moving furniture and equipment as required, including to set up for in-services or other events.
- Removes garbage and/or recyclables as required.
- Inspect and record findings for: Playground, Emergency lighting in the office building, Emergency generator in the residence building , Aid with fire drills
- Assists with on call building maintenance requirements
What You Bring to the Table: You’re not just looking for any job – you’re passionate about the work that you do, and you bring a wealth of knowledge and experience.
- A minimum of two (2) years related work experience, preferably in maintenance.
- High School Completion Certificate is required.
- Class 4 Driver’s License as may be required to drive APSEA owned vehicles
- Clear Driver’s Abstract is required.
- Strong work ethic and a positive team attitude, works well in a team dynamic.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Flexibility to handle unexpected and potential emergency situations.
- Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to maintain accurate records.
- Ability to lift 30-50 pounds, unassisted.
- In providing maintenance support to individuals renting the buildings, the maintenance worker will directly support tenants accessibility to a safe, inclusive environment.

$44,129.02 - $44,966.22 per year
