What’s the Role? As the Supervisor of Programs BVI, you will play a key role in coordinating the provision, quality, and daily management of programs in the Province of Nova Scotia.

The Supervisor provides supportive leadership to APSEA employees in their designated province, translating priorities and vision into operational programs and initiatives that benefit learners who are blind and visually impaired supported by APSEA and their families.

Your day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Providing leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of services to learners supported by APSEA.
  • Collaborating with APSEA Directors to assess learner needs, analyze target population trends and profiles to recommend programs and service changes.
  • Engaging in professional learning and keeping abreast of current literature to remain knowledgeable concerning emerging trends, innovations, programs, and materials in the field.
  • Actively engaging in and facilitating APSEA Service Delivery and Program Planning teams.
  • Developing effective relationships with related external agencies, organizations, and/or partners.
  • Supporting processes to create a safe, equitable, positive and supportive learning environment in which diversities are valued.
  • Supporting and providing leadership to employees in their department to align programs and services to the provincial curriculum and programs.
  • Contributing to the maximum budget operating efficiency of BVI programs through the effective management of human and financial resources.
  • Demonstrating fiscal responsibility by working within an approved budget and allocating funding as required.

What You Bring to the Table: You’re not just looking for any job – you’re passionate about education, and you bring a wealth of knowledge and experience. 

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has a valid Nova Scotia Teaching Certificate.
  • Has a Master's degree in education of learners who are blind and visually impaired, or equivalent.
  • Has a Master of Education in Educational Leadership Studies, or equivalent is an asset.
  • Brings five (5) years experience teaching learners who are blind and visually impaired in an educational setting, including assessment and individualized planning.
  • Has previous or current experience in administration and/or leadership positions (is preferred).
  • Demonstrates leadership skills in the assessment of learner needs and the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services for learners who are blind and visually impaired. 
  • Demonstrates the ability to design, implement and evaluate professional learning opportunities.
  • Demonstrates the ability in the management of human and fiscal resources within budget.
  • Has the ability to apply knowledge, experience, and commitment in the areas of cross cultural understanding, human rights, and diversity.
  • Brings excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Deals openly, honestly and transparently in pursuit of common goals.
  • Is ok with frequent extended days, provision of leadership may be required outside of the school year.
  • Is highly organized and detail oriented, with strong decision-making skills.
  • Works collaboratively with APSEA colleagues, educational team members, and other agencies and educational partners.
  • Takes a proactive approach, seeking new knowledge and skills while looking for opportunities to enhance efficiency within the organization.
  • Is ok with travel, as this is expected: access to a reliable mode of transportation is required.

Would be a plus if you have: 

  • Proficiency in French or an additional language.
  • American Sign Language (ASL) proficiency.
