APSEA is an interprovincial cooperative agency established in 1975 by joint agreement among the Ministers of Education of New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.

Position Details

Reporting to the Directors of Programs - Blind & Visually Impaired (BVI), the Coordinator of Programs - BVI (Atlantic Provinces) is responsible for providing supportive leadership as it relates to the coordination, development and implementation of programs and services for learners, families, and school teams across the Atlantic provinces.  As part of the leadership team, the Coordinator promotes collaborative alignment across APSEA programs and services through a network of interconnected resources supporting learners who receive APSEA services and their families.  
 
The Coordinator of Programs - BVI (Atlantic Provinces) works with APSEA teams, and educational and community partners across the Atlantic Provinces to oversee the provision of programs and services that include virtual learning, in-person learning and gathering opportunities, along with other programs and services that support learners.

Requirements and Qualifications You Bring:

  • Five (5) years of experience in programming and service delivery for students who are BVI.
  • Minimum of (5) years of experience in administration and/or leadership/supervisory capacity, within education.
  • Masters Degree in Education of students who are blind or visually impaired, or equivalent. 
  • Masters Degree in Educational Administration/Leadership or equivalent education and experience.  
  • A valid Nova Scotia Teacher’s Certificate.  
  • Experience in the recruitment, supervision and evaluation of employee(s).  
  • Experience in programming and service delivery for learners in the public school system.  
  • Demonstrated ability in the management of fiscal resources within budget. 
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Deals openly, honestly and transparently in pursuit of departmental and organizational goals. 
  • Highly organized and detail oriented, with strong decision-making capacity in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Is driven to work collaboratively with APSEA colleagues, educational team members, and other agencies and educational partners.
  • A forward focused individual who proactively seeks new knowledge and skills, who looks for opportunities to improve the organization and experience of team members.  
  • Proven ability to prioritize effectively, productively lead multiple priorities, and work in a team environment, contributing to organization and team success.  
  • Has the ability to mentor and coach employees in the development, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of appropriate programming for learners with diverse needs. 
  • Works independently with limited supervision, is self-directed, and demonstrates initiative. 
  • Ability to apply knowledge, experience, and commitment in the areas of cross-cultural understanding, human rights and diversity. 
  • High degree of resourcefulness, flexibility and adaptability.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
  • Demonstrates ethical decision making, positive team attitude, along with a commitment to privacy.
  • Flexible work schedule needed to accommodate program implementation outside of typical school hours. 
  • Occasional travel may be required within the Atlantic Provinces, so access to a reliable mode of transportation would be required.
  • Comfortable working in a virtual learning environment.   
  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) is an asset.
  • French Language fluency is an asset.
